Elodie De-Souza

Psychotherapist, MSc, BACP
I provide general and integrative counselling to both children, young people and adults.

I have a longstanding interest in how our early relationships affect our development. As an Integrative counsellor, I work with different therapeutic tools and approaches to fit the needs of my individual clients.

My theoretical model is Integrative and it fuses Psychodynamic (exploring past experience - via relationships and family attachments that affect the present behaviour, interactions and relationships) and Person Centred (a non judgemental, empathic, honest here and now experience) approach. This approach aids towards a personal tailored therapy drawing knowledge and techniques from various schools of thought (CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt, art and play therapy etc)..

I have over 20 years of experience of working with children, young people and families.

  • What happens at the initial appointment?

    expand_more

This is Important so that we can get a sense of whether we would be able to work well together. The session establishes whether I am the right Counsellor for you. I take some notes of your history and the difficulties that bring you to counselling.

  • Is everything I say to you confidential?

    expand_more

Yes it is. There are however certain exceptions which I will explain to you when we meet.

  • How long is each session?

    expand_more

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long for individuals and 1 hour for couples. We would meet once a week on a regular day at the same time.

  • What will we talk about?

    expand_more

The sessions are yours and I am lead by you as to what you would like to reflect on. Counselling is a commitment so it is important for you to attend regularly so that you can get the best benefit from the process.

  • Will you advise me on what to do?

    expand_more

No counselling is not advice giving. Counselling helps you reflect on your thoughts, feelings and response to your difficulties so that you can make choices that are right for you.

  • How many sessions will I need?

    expand_more

This depends on the nature of your difficulty. I would suggest initially 6-12 with the 6th session being a review, but the choice is yours. You can see me for a few sessions or longer. In any event we would keep this under regular review.

  • What happens if I need to cancel and re-arrange my appointment?

    expand_more

I ask please for at least 24 hours notice of cancellation otherwise the full charge will be payable. If I can offer you another appointment the same week then this charge won’t be applicable. If I am away or need to cancel I will not charge you for the slot.

  • How do I pay?

    expand_more

Payment is due on the day of your appointment please. Cash or Mobile Banking (Including bank transfer).

  • How do we know when to end?

    expand_more

We will have regular reviews to make sure that we are on track. It is always best to have a good ending so I try to pace our sessions so that we can have a final review.
